The Championship was introduced for the 2004-2005 season, having been previously known as the First Division. The Championship is the highest division of the Football League and the second highest division in the English football league system after the Premier League.
The Championship is the richest non-top flight football division in the world, and impressively the sixth richest division in Europe. Television revenue plays a major part in The Championships success.
