Premier League History
The Premier League (officially known as the Barclays Premier League) is an English professional league for football clubs. The Premier League was formed on the 20th February 1992 and is currently contested by 20 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with The Football League.
The first ever Premier League games were played on 15th August 1992, following the decision of football clubs in the Football League First Division to break away from The Football League to take advantage of lucrative television rights.
The Premier League is the world’s most watched sporting league and the most lucrative football league across the globe.
