Aston Villa Football Kit
Aston Villa's football kit colours are claret shirts with sky blue sleeves, white shorts with claret and blue trim and sky blue socks with claret and white trim.
Aston Villa's football kit colours were originally comprised of plain shirts (white, grey or a shade of blue), with either white or black shorts. In 1877–79 the team wore several different football kits from all white, blue and black, red and blue to plain green. William McGregor introduced black shirts with a red lion embroidered on the chest in 1880.
It is not totally clear why Aston Villa's famous claret and blue were the clubs adopted colours for their football kits. The main theory suggests the colours were adopted due with the Scottish influence from George Ramsay and William McGregor. The football kit was created from the maroon of Hearts football shirts and the blue of Rangers football shirts, with the Scottish lion used as the badge. Aston Villa's football kit inspired other clubs to adopt claret and blue including Burnley and West Ham United.
Aston Villa reveled a new crest in May 2007 for the 2007-08 season and beyond. The new club crest includes a star acknowledging their European Cup win in 1982. Randy Lerner, the club's owner asks fans to help design the new crest. The three new football kits that carry the crest were unveiled on 17th July 2007.
