Chelsea Football Kit
Chelsea have always worn blue football shirts, although they initially wore a lighter shade than the current kit, and unlike today’s football kit, they wore white shorts and dark blue socks. The lighter blue colours were taken from Earl Cadogan’s racing colours. The light blue football kits were soon replaced by a royal blue football kit in 1912.
Tommy Docherty changed Chelsea’s football kit again, by adding blue shorts and white socks, trying to make the club appear more distinctive. This Chelsea football kit colour combination was first worn in the 1964-65 season.
Chelsea’s away football kit colours are yellow or all white with blue trim, but like most teams there have been exceptions. Chelsea’s first away football kit consisted of black and white stripes. Other memorable away Chelsea football kits have included mint green kit in the 1980s and a graphite and tangerine shirt in the mid 90’s.
The 2007/08 Chelsea away football kit consists of an ‘electric yellow’ shirt with black lines, with black shorts and black socks. It is very similar to the old Borussia Dortmund football shirts worn in the 1990’s.
Chelsea’s football kit is currently manufactured by Adidas, which is contracted to the club from 2006 to 2011. Chelsea’s previous football kit manufacturer was Umbro. Their football shirts are currently sponsored by Samsung Mobile, and were previously sponsored by Emirates Airline, Coors beer, Amiga and Simod.
