Liverpool Football Kit
Liverpool’s traditional football kit colours are red and white, with the home kit being all red since the mid 1960’s. When the club was first established, they wore blue and white kits, almost identical to that worn by Everton. By 1984 Liverpool had adopted the red colour and in 1901 the liver bird was adopted as the club badge. For the next 60 years, Liverpool’s football kit was red shirts and white shorts.
Liverpool first wore their famous all red football kit in 1964 when Billy Shankly (the Liverpool manager) decided to send his team out in an all red football kit. Billy Shankly believed the all red football kit would have a psychological impact, with red standing for danger and power.
Liverpool’s away football kit colours are traditionally either white shirts and blacks shorts or all yellow kits. In 1987 an all grey football kit was also introduced. During the 1990’s, Liverpool experimented with a number of away football kit designs and colours, including gold and navy kits, bright yellow kits and black and grey kits. Liverpool now adopts either all yellow or all white football kits each year.
The current Liverpool football kits are designed by Adidas, who have made the clubs kits between 1985 and 1996. Liverpool’s previous branded kits were made by Umbro (until 1985) and Reebok (for ten seasons from 1996). The 2007-08 away football kit is white shirts, black shorts and white socks. Liverpool’s third football kit for the 2007-08 season is all black with red and white trim.
Liverpool were the first British professional football club to wear a sponsor's logo on their football shirts in 1979, agreeing a deal with Hitachi.
