Middlesbrough Football Kit
Middlesbrough F.C. were formed in 1876, but did not adopt their famous red and white football kit colours until 1899. Previous football kits included a red and black striped home shirt with black shorts and socks, and a white football shirt with blue shorts and socks. The Middlesbrough football kit remained relatively the same over the years with a red football shirt and socks and either red or white shorts.
The distinctive broad white stripe across the chest was introduced by Jack Charlton in 1973, it was re-introduced as a one-off in 1997–98 and then again for the 2000–01 and 2004–05 seasons due to popular demand. Middlesbrough announced in December 2007 that the club would allow fans to decide via an online and text vote whether the white band on the clubs football kits should return for the following season. On 8 January 2008 the club announced that the white band was to return. The fans were allowed to choose the final football shirt design from a selection of three.
Middlesbrough football kit is produced by Errea. Middlesbrough’s shirt sponsors from 2004 to the 2006-07 season was the Gibraltarian online gambling portal, 888.com in a deal worth around £1.5 million per year. On the 20th July 2007, Garmin was announced as the clubs newest sponsor.
