Newcastle United Football Kit

During the first two years of Newcastle’s existence, they wore the home football kit of East End, which was made up of red football shirts, white shorts and black socks. Newcastle United first wore their famous black and white football kits in 1894. The new football kit colours were adopted because many neighbouring clubs wore red shirts, which clashed with their East End football kit, so they decided to change.

Newcastle United has worn black and white striped football shirts, black shorts and black socks for the vast majority of their history. However some Newcastle United managers changed the usual black socks to white socks, as they felt them luckier.

Newcastle United’s away football kits have been very inconsistent throughout their history, with no real set in stone standard. Some of the most popular away Newcastle football kits have included blue kits or yellow kits. The yellow football kit was especially common in the 1970s and 1980s. The yellow football kits either featured a green or blue trim, depending on the season. One of the most eye catching away football kits worn by Newcastle United included a yellow and green striped kit, appearing between 1988 and 1990. Other common away football kit colours have included grey football kits, all black football kits and all white and green football kits. Another infamous Newcastle away football kit was a maroon and blue hooped kit that appeared in the 1995-96 and 2006-07 seasons, which were worn as a tribute to West End.

Newcastle United football kit were first made by Bukta 1976 and 1979 and then moved to Umbro from 1980 to 1993. Newcastle kits were shortly created by Asics from 1993-1995 but are now made by Adidas since 1995. Newcastle United has had their football kits sponsored from a few companies including Scottish & Newcastle, Greenall’s, Newcastle Brown Ale, NTL and Northern Rock.
