Brazil Football Kit
Brazil's first team football kit colours were white with blue collars. The kit colours were changed following a defeat in the Maracanazo at the 1950 World Cup. The original Brazilian football kit colours were criticised for lacking patriotism.
After gaining permission from the Brazilian Sports Confederation, the Correio da Manhã (a Brazilian newspaper) held a competition to design a football kit incorporating the four colours of the Brazilian flag. The winning football kit design was drawn by Aldyr Garcia Schlee, the nineteen year old designed a yellow jersey with green trim and blue shorts with white trim. The new Brazilian football kits were first used in March 1954 in a match against Chile, and have been used ever since.
Brazil’s use of blue as their away football kit colour dates from the 1958 World Cup final. Brazil's opponents were Sweden (who also wear yellow) and as Sweden were the home team, they had the first choice of colours. Brazil travelled with no spare football kit had to quickly hurriedly purchase a set of blue football shirts and sewed on the emblems cut from their yellow football shirts.
