Scotland Football Kit
Scotland’s football kit is traditionally dark blue football shirts with white shorts and dark blue socks, these are football kit colours of the Queens Park team who represented Scotland in the first international. Scotland’s football shirt is embroidered with a crest based upon the lion rampant of the Royal Standard of Scotland. The current away football kit is all white with blue across the chest.
Another football kit style used by Scotland comprises blue football shirts, white shorts and red socks. Scotland’s away kits have varied greatly, but are most commonly white or yellow football shirts with blue shorts. From 1994–96 Scotland wore a tartan football kit. The current Scottish crest includes the Scottish flag and a background of thistles and the lion rampant.
Scotland have not always worn their famous dark blue football kits; on a number of occasions (between 1881 and 1951) Scotland played in the primrose and pink racing colours of Archibald Primrose. His colours were used as Scotland’s football kit colours in the first decade of the twentieth century, but were discontinued in 1909. The football kit colours were briefly reprised in 1949, and were last used in 1951 against France.
The SFA has recently supported the use of Scots Gaelic on the national football teams’ strip in recognition of the language's revival in Scotland. Small letters can be found on the reverse of Scotland’s home football kit.
Football History of Scotland
